History of Asian Marching Boys
History of Asian Marching Boys
From its humble beginnings, Asian Marching Boys (AMB) has become an increasingly prominent fixture in the annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade, winning various community awards and attracting enormous media attention.
Founded in 1999 by Scientist Dr Mohamad Mahat and child-psychologist/ filmmaker Alexander Ku, AMB strives to promote the visibility of Asian gay men in Australia and encourage active participation in mainstream gay and lesbian cultural and social activities. In doing so, AMB helps to encourage the Asian gay community to take a more proactive role in the search for their cultural, sexual and political identity.
AMB is an inclusive group, welcoming men and women of all sexual identities, ages, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds and beliefs. AMB welcomes participation and support from local and overseas individuals.
